An observation on the pH and KH situation... adding sodium bicarb to increase KH works but is an incomplete remedy. KH is comprised of more than just sodium bicarb. Calcium and magnesium are important and often overlooked components of KH. I mention this because calcium and magnesium might also be n...

Bactozym is a new product to me, but since it is a capsule and they do not say that it has live bacteria but rather state it contains enzymes, I have a guess as to what it is. Most likely the capsules contain the concentrated enzymes of heterotrophic "sludge eating" bacteria. Certainly tha...

Barbie, you are so right about the dog! One store I worked at the owner had a doberman named Nothing (yep, that was really his name!) who stayed behind the register. Things got stolen, but much less than at other stores. I was there when a customer started screaming at the owner about not getting a ...

This is a difficult issue for me. I want the river Xingu ecosystem preserved. But I know that in saying that I am also saying that the people living in that area should be denied affordable, reliably electricity. That means people will die because hospitals won't be able to offer modern care. The ot...

$200 is still a lot to me. And when you think of me being a novice, spending that money and making a fatal mistake (which anyone can do by the way) really makes that value a lot higher. All this said, I am in the process of setting up another aquarium right now. That is why I am here in this forum....
