Re: water parameters for dry and wet season
Thanks twotanks. Interesting info
In your experience what parameters of temp, ph, tds, gh/kh do u keep your zebs for dry season and then wet season to induce spawning.

Re: New group all dead overnite!
wow, keeping fish in low tds is dangerous imo. with tds 20ppm, the ph of 7.0 will drop to 5.0 within a week of having fish in there

new colony 8 zebs
Hi all,
I'm super excited about my colony of 8 zebra. They come from a breeding colony of 12 :d :d :d . I have 1 male and 7 females (that’s what was sold to me with 100% assurance of sex and looking at them they do look the part). Everybody is welcomed to review my photos and tell me what you think ...

Re: About dry/rainy season (tips please)
zebs are notoriously difficult to activate, not matter what you do. Sometimes they can be activated to spawn by things that we do, but mostly they just spawn when they want to *shrug*. But once they're activated, you dont really need to do the dry/rainy season thing cos they'll have spawns every ...

Can zeb strips become wavy?
I recently see my frends zeb and it had moderately wavy black stripes. He said the straight lines charged to wavy lines after numerous spawns when her flank was scratches and has then healed and now is wavy. Does this happen?

If it's 7cm, doesn't cave much and moves around and with that type of head shape, I'm pretty sure u got yourself a female

Re: breeding behaviour?
Hmmm
What Darry wrote makes sense. There is plenty of other hiding places in driftwood and rocks in the tank for the male and female to hide in my 4th tank. I did remove all but 1 cave yesterday and checked this morning see what how things were doing. The male had his tail protruding outside the ...

Re: can you help with sexing please
Without knowing how long u've had it for or how old you think the zeb is, then its pretty difficult to say accurately.
But from the looks of it, it looks about 7cm?, so it could be a female from its head shape as males have a squarer head.

Re: Anyone successful bred from a pair or f/m/m or m/f/f tri
Cos they've breed before (not for me, but for the previous owner many many times) i'm getting impatient after 3 months of waiting :frustrated:
Atm i'm trialling to induce spawning via a method written by Christophe Girardet on plecoplanet.

Joby, how long did you need to wait when you got your Zebs to breed when you got them from a larger group?Joby wrote:I have a m,f,f trio breeding that originally came from a larger group. 4 spawns so far with only 2 resulting in fry though. He usually takes turns with the females

Thanks for your reply Stevie k
They've bred before. They were from an existing breeding colony. The male was the alpha male. I'm told he is not a regular breeder like years ago as he is getting older, my guess is he is 7-8 years olds. Im thinking of adding another mature male to add competition to ...
