catching 1.34 inch babies

HI I have to catch some juveniles from a 70 gallon planted tank.It is very tricky as the plecos stick them selves to the glass and then to the net...and can die by misadventure.Who has a better method?. I know sometimes you can move a whole cave out with the fish in it.That works ..but what if you c...

best tank size for breeding group

HI I could use a thought here. have a breeding group of 6 with 15 1.75 inch young ones in a 70 gal planted and caves tank. New fry are really hard to catch, can easily be injured in the catching and do poorly in a fry tank and also don't do too well in a breeder net (nitrate can sneak up just in the ...

diet for 1/2 to 3/4 inch fry

HI I suppose that I should know, but i still have not determined exactly what is the best food or group of foods for zebra fry until they reach a good 3/4 inches or a bit more. Currently ,I am feeding finely cheese grated "European Shrimp mix" and finely grated home made discus beefheart mi...

HI I have some zebras that ,once you get them going which ,here in North east USA,seems to occur in July, they will breed easily and regularly without much intervention at all...keep in mind, though, that I have RO water and do pay some attention to TDS triggering. As mentioned in other posts,however,I...

Re: feeding fry to and after 3/4 inch

HI Let me add some data that might be of help. 1. I know people raise the babies with the adults. But a 70 gallon is sort of big and whenever I have raised other types of fry,it did seem that the tank can get too big for them to find food. The babies used to graze on the rear glass..but they essentia...

feeding fry to and after 3/4 inch

HI I have bred a lot more zebras than I actually have. It happens that they decided to form a breeding colony about 18 months ago in a planted 70 gal (which causes some problems: This is what I have observed: 1. If I leave them in the breeder tank they fade away and die within a week ..they get very...

beefheart

HI I have a couple of spawns of babies which are at the 3/4 inch long stage. Recently, because I have some,I began feeding them some San Francsisco Bay prepared frozen beefheart. I did have a death but it could have been accidental as they rarely kill themselves by getting into impossible spots etc. ...

Re: Whoop whoop! zebs spawn at last!

HI It is interesting to read about people watching their first spawn etc etc. I am still a bit perplexed by this. I have a spawning cave in a secluded spot in a planted 70 gal. I never interfere with the group at all. I can see absolutely nothing. Babies show up regularly ( usually on the back glass...

Re: Can you sex zebs?

HI I can only say that my old Alpha male ( maybe even 7 years old)is so "furry"that you can see his Odontes on the front fins from 3 feet away. I suppose he is admittedly an easy one to sex. Also, he is quite a bit bigger than the females...also bulkier with maybe a bigger head

spawn on glass

HI I have a new spawn that are now "free swimming ' and can be seen here and there on the glass ( virtually always on the glass) of my zebra colony planted tank. I have raised a few before. They are extremely hard to catch to get them out of the tank ( and fatalities will occur) yet growth is s...
