Slate cave size
Just wondered what you guys thought would be the best cave dimensions for three inch zebra plecs? Thinking of getting some of those recktangle slate caves but unsure as to exact height/width/length dimensions, or does it not matter too much? Any general estimate would be good though.

I'll try and get some pics up soon over the next few days. At the time me and the guy I bought them off were pretty sure they were two males and two females. The males had the longer 'hairs' at the side of the head, extending past the start of the pectoral fins. There was a difference in body shape ...

When I ay they haven't 'claimed space' I mean they haven't claimed any of the proper caves. One or two of them have favourite locations and I have seen some minor territorial activity in the past once or twice. I'm thinking about getting those slate square caves that everybody has. I'll re-arrange t...

Tank cave setup
Ok, I have 4 adult zebra plecs in my aquarium. It has four 'proper' enclosed caves in it, but also bogwood and slate. None of the zebra's have taken up territories in any of the 'proper' caves in the past 9 months, they all insist on just random locations like behind the bogwood or underneath the sl...

If you want to keep bottom dwelling tankmates with the zebs that may out compete them for fod, then I use a rather good, but simple method....put a load of flake or pellets in there first, wait till the active catfish are bursting, then put in the proper stuff for the zebs. Works a treat with my zeb...

By cleaner I assume you mean softer water, i.e. lower dissolved substances in it, thus a lower GH? So: Dry season>weather change>big water change with cool, softer water, and lower temperature to 76f overnight>two weeks of softer, cooler water with a lower PH> gradually build back up to dry season c...

Thanks for that TwoTankAmin:) Basically I have done all of what you said, regarding the dry season, even the optional environment changes. They haven't had a water change now for a good two/three weeks, have the temp high on 86f and have made the water quite hard at 10GH (330 TDS, I think). Plus I h...

gtp, my zebras are the same way. Only the older, adult males take up residence in the caves. The rest of them are under rocks, slate, driftwood, and whatever else they can find. I think that when they are younger, they tend to roam more than the adults. Good luck. Hmm, well I'm pretty sure they are...
