Thanks INXS, it is good to hear that somebody else has also a useless alpha male, and the best thing that some other males are better dads than others.
I am going to make changes in my tanks tomorrow, and we'll see what happens. Good luck to you with your zebra babies!

Nice idea, but I've got only one female 8)

Well, I've got also young females, but they are not fertile yet...

I guess my alpha eats his babies just at the moment they hatch. Maybe he thinks someting is wrong with them and eats them.

(And I'm sorry for my terrible english...)

Rising the temperature doesn't cure ich. You always need to use some medication.

Inia by what you are saying he is actually quite useful if he already fathered 50 No, he has not fathered them, he has eaten them! I've got only 10 babies from ~ 7 spawns. I dont want to rise eggs/babies by myself, I think it's unnatural to do so. (I tried to do that two days ago and they died.) Bu...

Well, this was not at all the first spawn, the male has 10 babies already. First spawn 1,5 years ago went well, total success, 9 babies. After that no success, exept one baby two months ago. The mother-zeb has spawned about 5-6 times after the first succesfull spawn, and only one baby has survived. ...

Sadly they died. In the morning everything seemed to be fine, but when I got back home, they were dead, killed by a fungus. Made me really sad... :(

How can I make them survive if somethig similar happens in the future? Should I put the fry in total darkness and use medication?

Sorry for your loss dana... :(

The thing I would do if I was you: I would take all the extra decoration away and observe my fish very carefully, about a month or so, look specially the fins of the fish. If everything seems to be ockay, put the decoration back.

I found two eggs/foetuses

Few days ago I thought that my zebras have spawned. The male stayed in his cave until this morning, when I found him outside, just hangin between some rocks. I thought that "that was it then" but when I looked more carefully, I saw two eggs, or more likely just hatched baby zebs, on the bo...

Would you just raise the temperature and leave them without medication? I had white spot in my discus tank and first I thougt that it'll just go if I rise temperature to 32C. I was wrong. Disease got worse and I started medication with Waterlifes Protozin. That worked quite well and my fish become ...

Hi inia, did you mean that the Zebra don't eat wood? If you did that's not correct, I've seen mine do that on several occations.
No, that was not what I ment, also my zebs (specially females and juveniles) eat wood sometimes, but not so passionately than for example Baryancistrus species do. :)

I think your pleco is L-201, his/her mouth looks like (tiny) Hypancistrus mouth to me. If the fish is behaving like a zebra (and not eating wood), it is L-201.

When I got my first young zebras ~2 years ago, they had clearly blue eyes. The colour didn't last long, and today their eyes are mostly white or slightly blue. Also their babies eyes are mostly white. My first zebras were probably caught from nature, and I have wondered if there is something missing...
